Youth Science in Action: How AlES JSC specialists combine production, research and innovation
AlES JSC strongly believe that the future of the power industry lies with those who are able to combine practice and science. Young specialists here do not simply work in production – these young specialists create future technologies, study and prove that a real breakthrough is generated at the junction of experience and daring ideas. To mark the Day of Scientific Worker – stories of those who are already changing the industry today.
Beksultan Kurmangaliyev: on his way from electrician to chief manager
Beksultan is a graduate and Master with honors, and currently holds a doctoral degree at Almaty University of Power Engineering and Communications named after G.Daukeyev. Beksultan has started his career in 2021 as an electrician at CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov. In just three years, he made his way up to Chief Manager of the Operations Service at the company’s head office.
However, his main passion is the science. In 2024, he published two articles in international journals on adaptive protection systems for power grids. He is currently developing a test bench for 6-35 kV networks with a highly resistive neutral – this is part of his doctoral thesis.
“Learning is my hobby”, smiles Beksultan. – The power industry keeps up, and we must not fall behind.
Gaukhar Temirova: the chemistry of success
Gauhar, a leading specialist in the Personnel Training Division, balances her work with pursuing a master’s degree. Her research focuses on the upgrading of CHPPs: from flue gas capture to energy-efficient materials.
Gaukhar’s scientific article on flue gas plasters won first place on Daukeyev Readings, which brought her a one-million tenge scholarship. She invested these funds in new experiments. And in 2024, Gaukhar with her co-workers won an internship at the Saint-Gobain plant in Chelyabinsk, where she studied innovations in thermal insulation.
“They showed us how environmental standards are implemented in production. This is not just knowledge – it is a source for future projects,” she shares.
Alisher Teltai: hydrogen, maths and work
Alisher, a master of the boiler shop at CHPP-1, has defended his master’s thesis on a hydrogen-fuelled TPP scheme in 2025. His articles on heat exchangers and renewable energy represent a step towards decarbonization.
His team was awarded 4 th place at Rosatom’s HakAtom tournament in 2023, and a trip to the Saint-Gobain plant amazed him with the company’s out-of-the-box approach:
“There’s a museum of broken parts with analyses of the causes of accidents. It’s brilliant! Learning from mistakes means not making them again in the future,” says Alisher.
The Breakthrough Team: Science as Collective Creativity
Joint projects represent special pride of AlES JSC. Gauhar, Alisher and Mukhammed Quan (boiler operator at ZTC) proved that even thermal insulation can become an environmental tool. Their paper on the role of insulation in decarbonization won the competition, opening the way to the plant in Chelyabinsk.
“We tested materials, studied production. Now we are aware of how to reduce emissions at our CHP plants,” as Muhammed notes.
Ground for development: the company is educating scientists and practitioners
The management of JSC AlES relies on young people:
– dual training – students in their 3rd year already work at the CHPP. By the way, Gauhar Temirova and Alisher Teltai underwent an internship at CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev when they were 3rd year students;
– winning contests is encouraged by trips to the advanced enterprises and supported by the company’s management;
– flexible schedule – combining work with master’s and doctoral studies.
Yernar Sandybayev, Managing Director for General Affairs, emphasises: ‘We create an environment where theory meets practice, The young specialists of the company are proof that the love for knowledge, supported by practice, can light up new stars in the energy sky’.
In AlES JSC the Day of Science Workers is not just a date in the calendar. It is a holiday of those who prove every day that science is a tool for transforming reality.
