Where does a palm tree thrive? At Almaty CHPP-2…

Surrounded by the roar of turbines, the clicking of relays, and flashing numbers on instruments, a palm tree thrives in the heart of the CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov. It is a natural palm tree: towering, verdant, and well-maintained. It reaches for the sunlight through the technical routine of everyday life – as a symbol of life, care and sensitivity, which, it turns out, is abundant here.

“When I started working at the station 24 years ago,” recalls Talgat Dzhumadilov, foreman of the measurement equipment group at the Thermal Automation and Measurement Workshop, ‘the palm tree was just a seedling. We don’t know who planted it. But we accepted it as part of the team.

Since then, the palm tree has not only grown – it has become the group’s lucky charm. Dozens of other plants live here with it: lush violets, bright clivia, sprawling philodendron, trailing spider plant, and a Decembrist that always senses the approach of winter – a total of about 40 green “colleagues”. And every leaf, every flower is the result of the team’s painstaking care.

We would like to express our special gratitude to Samat Abzhanov. A 30-year veteran electrician, he is the unofficial “head of flora” around here. His colleagues cheerfully remark that if plants had passports, his name would surely be listed under “place of permanent care”. He has a keen sense for plants. He knows which ones need feeding, which ones need replanting, and which ones need pruning. Every flower has its own story.

People bring flowers in from home. They give them as gifts or leave them, knowing that they will live here. And they won’t just be standing in the corner, they will bloom – because they are loved.

CHPP-2 is not only about energy, but also about people who know how to cherish life in all its manifestations. While others see nothing but equipment, a whole world of greenery and care grows here.

And the palm tree in the corner is a silent but meaningful symbol of this world.
