Vyacheslav Razbitskiy: I try to involve young specialists in helpful projects
When asked what mentoring means to him, Vyacheslav Stanislavovich Razbitskiy, Deputy Head of the Thermal Automation and Measurement Shop, quotes the Canadian writer Bob Proctor. The author and lecturer on self-improvement of a new mindset said the following: «A mentor is someone who can see more talent and abilities in you than you see in yourself, and helps you to develop them. The best thing we show each other is support».
This is both the credo and approach to mentoring of power engineer Vyacheslav Razbitskiy, which he has been following for more than 20 years. Vyacheslav Stanislavovich started working in Alma-Ata energy complex – at CHPP-3 – in 1990. In the upcoming year – 2025 – will mark 35 years, as he has been working at this station, multiplying his contribution to the profession through the achievements of his students.
However, like many specialists of «AlES» JSC, he himself started his labor path with the support of experienced mentors.
– My first mentors in the profession were: Evgeny Georgievich Nidenthal, Nikolay Timofeevich Baranov, – says Vyacheslav Stanislavovich. – They not only instilled in me professional skills and love for my chosen profession, shared their experience, but also taught me responsibility, the desire to acquire new knowledge, to constantly learn. Their training, their lessons allowed me to achieve success in my work. My mentors did not allow sloppiness and incompetence in my work. Like everyone at that time, I was engaged in rationalization. I remember well the various breakdowns in the equipment, emergencies that occurred at the beginning of my career. That’s exactly where we had to put all our efforts and knowledge to eliminate problems.
Following the tradition of Almaty power engineers, Vyacheslav Razbitskiy also came to mentoring in the course of time. And soon it turned out to be not just an addition to his work or duty, but an interesting fascinating activity with young colleagues, who in their turn expanded his world.
– «Mentoring for me is, of course, about passing on my skills and knowledge to the younger generation», says Vyacheslav Stanislavovich. – But not only that. It is also a return to my own youth, and a look into the future, and immersion in the modern life of the new generation. I remember a young employee Anatoly Sedeshov who worked for us. He reminded me a lot of myself in my youth; he was as active and inquisitive as I used to be. It is interesting to work with such students, to share experience, seeing their sincere interest in work and response. The value of mentoring is to find an individual approach to each employee. Then there will be a return on investment.
Vyacheslav Razbitskiy, as well as many mentors tries to monitor the successes of his students, is proud of their achievements. He remembers a lot of interesting cases that show that industrial mentoring is not only a school of profession, but also a school of life, a field of relationships.
– In general, there were many interesting cases in my work, – continues Vyacheslav Stanislavovich. – Once, about five years ago, we found an old watch in a warehouse and decided to restore it with the guys. It was a very interesting task – to bring back to life a mechanical watch. We were driven both by purely technical interest and the desire to make a kind of gift to the veterans of the station. After all, the older generation of power engineers always looked at the clocks. It was a tradition: when workers came to the station’s gatehouse. And we coped with this work. Even now I try to involve young people in interesting and useful projects. For example, recently we have done such a very important and necessary work – we made a structural diagram of CHPP-3 boilers and turbine units. I will further keep trying to devote as much time as possible to young specialists …
