Smart helmets at production site: a step towards zero injuries

AlES JSC is committed to ensuring safety, based on advanced technologies, a culture of caring for people, and a systematic approach to occupational health and safety. The introduction of 12 smart helmets in the company’s production departments represents one of these initiatives.

These helmets are way more than just gear. They’re high tech devices with video cameras that let you watch what’s going on in real time. They capture what workers are doing, check permissions, track how well health and safety rules are being followed, and analyze behavior on site.

“We work wearing these helmets on every round and every outing. We capture, review and analyze everything,” says Alexander Chukalin, head of the station’s safety and occupational health service.

“We see how targeted briefings are conducted, how authorization is organized, and whether safety measures are being observed. This helps not only to control but also to prevent risks,” adds Nargiz Tavbayeva, senior inspector for TNiPb at CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov.

The idea of introducing such helmets is supported as part of the Action Plan on Achieving Zero Injuries within the Samruk-Energy JSC group of companies. But the most important thing is not the technology, but the people who understand that responsibility for safety starts with each of us.

“Smart helmets” have already proven their effectiveness. They help identify weaknesses, train staff, improve discipline and, most importantly, protect lives. This is not a mere formality, but a living tool for care. Videos can be viewed, analyzed and discussed. This creates feedback that was previously difficult to obtain in real time.

The company has also launched a monitoring and response system: the helmets are connected to a central monitoring station, where specialists can quickly track the situation and take action when risks are identified.

This is all part of a major effort to create an environment where safety is not imposed but becomes the norm where every employee knows that their work is protected. The respect for rules is respect for life.

AlES JSC is convinced that zero injuries are not a catchphrase, but an achievable goal. And every step along the way is important.
