Over 40 years of service and dedication to the energy industry
On 20 May 2024, AlES JSC retired four legends of the power industry who dedicated more than 40 years of their lives to the development and formation of the industry. Gaziy Ismukhambetov, Isakhan Syrgabayev, Vladimir Shmelev and Renat Zhanguttin started their careers at Almaty CHPP-2 and CHPP-1 and became symbols of dedication and professionalism in the industry. CHPP-2 and CHPP-1 and became symbols of dedication and professionalism in the energy sector.
Veterans of the power industry shared their memories of their working life. For them, working in the power industry was not just a profession, but a way of life. Isakhan Syrgabayev recalled that his working days were filled with tasks and challenges, calls and questions did not leave him even on holiday. However, despite all the difficulties, he warmly recalls the years spent at AlES, especially the heartfelt communication with colleagues and joint holidays. Vladimir Shmelev told about his first day at Almatinskaya CHPP-1. He noted that each generation brings its own view, its own vision for the development of the energy sector.
At the ceremony, colleagues and managers expressed their gratitude to the veterans for their invaluable contribution to the development of AlES and the energy sector of Kazakhstan as a whole. Chairman of the Board of JSC AlES Yerik Mashirov on behalf of all employees noted that the contribution of veterans is enormous, and their support has always been necessary for the successful functioning of the company.
Gaziy Zhumabayevich Ismukhambetov graduated from the Alma-Ata Power Engineering Institute as an electrical engineer. After graduation, he stayed there to work as an engineer at the Department of High Voltage Engineering. He is a co-author of two certificates of authorship on three – phase controlled reactors. Gaziy Zhumabayevich started his labour career at Almaty CHPP-2 in 1986. Here he climbed the career ladder from an electrician on duty to the head of the station shift. From 2002 to 2007 Gaziy Zhumabayevich worked in the central dispatching service of JSC AIC. He went from dispatcher to its Head. Then for five years he worked as Deputy Chief Engineer of JSC AlES, then as a Chief Engineer. Since 2013, Gaziy Zhumabayevich worked for six years as Managing Director for Production – Chief Engineer, then Deputy Chairman of the Management Board for Production of AlES JSC.
Bauyrzhan Kaliev, Director of CHPP-3, shared his personal memories of Gaziy Zhumabayevich. Gaziy Zhumabayevich has always been like a father to him in production, mentoring and supporting him in difficult moments. Such people are an example for the whole industry.
Dauren Sagidulla, Managing Director for Development and Construction, noted that the older generation has always served as an example for young specialists. “Gaziy Zhumabayevich taught me to be concise and precise in expressing my thoughts and was always ready to help. It is impossible in the energy sector without mutual assistance”, Sagidulla said, expressing gratitude for joint work.
Isakhan Aktanovich Syrgabayev, after graduating from Almaty Power Engineering Institute, started his labour activity in May 1983 at A.Zhakutov CHPP-2, where he worked as a mechanic of the boiler shop. He worked his way up from a fuel grinding mill driver to deputy head of the boiler shop. From April 2005 to February 2007 – Chief Engineer of Almaty CHPP-2. After formation of AlES JSC, he worked as Managing Director of CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev and Managing Director of WHC.
Murat Karimov, Director of Kapshagayskaya HPP n.a. Sh.Chokin, emphasised that the power industry is a big family where everyone knows each other. He wished his colleagues health and rest, noting that they set high standards in their work.
Alexey Skryabin, Director of the Operations and Repairs Department, also thanked the veterans for their labour. He assured that the younger generation will follow their example and keep the bar set: “I thank Vladimir Georgiyevich for his school of life for me. He always listened and heard us. We expressed our opinions without fear, argued, proved, took offence, and then asked for his forgiveness”.
Vladimir Georgiyevich Shmelev started his labour activity in the power industry in 1982 as an electrician at CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev. He worked as a repair engineer, senior electrician on duty, shift supervisor of the electric shop, senior shift supervisor of the station, head of the boiler shop, deputy chief engineer at CHPP-1. Since 1994, Head of the Technical Research and Analysis Department at AIC JSC. Since 2005, Head of the Operations and Repairs Department. Since 2013, he has worked as Deputy Chief Engineer of JSC AlES.
Renat Naukhanovich is a mentor and teacher for Yulian Krivonosov, Head of Dispatching Service. R.N. Zhanguttin has been heading the Dispatch Department of AlES JSC since 2008. He is a manager with many years of experience in operational dispatch work, who is well aware of the specifics of energy sources and enjoys great authority among the region’s power engineers.
After graduating from the Almaty Power Engineering Institute, Renat Naukhanovich Zhanguttin started his labour activity at Almaty CHPP-2 as an electrician. Then he worked as shift supervisor of the electric shop, shift supervisor of the station. Since 1997 he worked as a senior dispatcher, Chief Dispatcher of the Central Dispatching Service of JSC AIC. From the day of formation of Dispatch Department in JSC AlES in 2008 Renat Naukhanovich is the Head of Department. During his work in AlES JSC, he made a great contribution to the organisation and development of the Dispatch Department.
Assel Arginbayeva, Managing Director for Economics and Finance, has always trusted the professionalism and forecasts of Gaziy Zhumabayevich, with whom they jointly assembled and defended 10 budgets and investment projects.
Alibek Tastanbekov, Managing Director of CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev, noted that years pass away, but life goes on: “It is great that you are retiring in good health and good spirits. Production Department of CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev sends special thanks to Isakhan Aktanovich. Doors of the station are always open for you. Take care of yourself, enjoy your life”.
Yernar Sandybayev, Managing Director for General Affairs, was happy to work with such professionals of his business. He expressed confidence that everyone wants to pass such a life path as Gaziy Ismukhambetov, Isakhan Syrgabayev, Vladimir Shmelev and Renat Zhanguttin.
Having retired the energy professionals, the company’s team will keep their wisdom and experience, continue to develop and improve the energy industry of Kazakhstan. Their names will remain in the history of Almaty energy system as symbols of dedication, professionalism and tireless labour. The staff of AlES JSC wishes them health and well-deserved rest, knowing that their legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of future generations of power engineers.
