Kapshagai HPP named after Sh.Chokin: maintenance campaign for reliability and ecology

Kapshagai HPP named after Sh.Chokin, one of the key sources of ‘green’ energy in the region, continues to strengthen its position in providing Almaty city and Almaty region with stable and environmentally friendly electricity. The basis of this work remains a systematic approach to equipment maintenance, which allows us to maintain high standards of safety and efficiency.

The scheduled maintenance campaign covering the main and auxiliary equipment started on 3 February 2025 at the station.

– A systematic approach to repairs is the key to the station’s longevity. We are strictly following the approved standards of AlES JSC in order to minimise risks and improve the efficiency of the equipment, – said Alibek Tastanbekov, Director of Kapshagai HPP named after Sh.Chokin.

Progress of works of the maintenance campaign:

– hydropower unit №1: the station’s employees has completed the overhaul on 11 March;
– hydropower unit №4: a current maintenance was carried out starting from 12 March to 7 April. Specialists of the Electrical Machine Shop repaired the unit units, power transformer T-4 and auxiliary systems. The unit was powered on 7 April;
– on the roadmap: current repairs of hydraulic units №2 and №3, transformers T-2, T-3, as well as general station facilities and hydrostructures.

– Every maintenance is an investment in the future of the station. We thoroughly check the equipment to eliminate risks, emphasized Andrey Ivanov, Head of the Electrical Laboratory.

Kapshagai HPP after Chokin plays a major role in the sustainable development of the region:

– pure energy: operation without carbon footprint in the region;
– stability: provides uninterrupted power supply to Almaty city and Almaty region;
– economy: extension of equipment life reduces the cost of new construction.

Working at the HPP is a responsibility to future generations. Our task is to preserve the equipment of the plant and put it in safe hands, – shared Alexander Miroshnichenko, Head of the Electromachine Shop.
