Environmental protection measures implemented in 2024

Environmental protection measures implemented in 2024

The following planned environmental protection measures were implemented in 2024:

Atmospheric air:

Measures were taken to reduce pollutant emissions from stationary sources, such as: maintenance of ash collectors at boiler units of the plants, repair of burners of boiler units, emulsifiers, elimination of disturbances in the technological cycle at boiler units. There was conducted emission monitoring and impact monitoring at the boundary of the sanitary protection zone of all production departments

Environmental effect from the implementation of measures: maintaining the emission level at the level of indicators established by draft emission standards.

Protection and rational use of water resources:

Repair of pumping equipment in boiler, turbine, chemical shops, treatment facilities, measures were taken to reduce water losses, repair of recycling system for production purposes, sanitary and microbiological studies of water samples at Kapshagai HPP.

Ecological effect from the implementation of measures: no emergency discharges, maintaining the level of harmful substances established in the draft MPD, compliance with the established standards for water consumption, reducing the negative impact on coastal ecosystems.

Production and consumption waste management, radiation, biological and chemical safety:

Measures were taken to prevent dusting of the combined ash and slag removal system, solid and household waste, mercury-containing lamps, waste oil and batteries, and other hazardous and non-hazardous waste were handed over for disposal.

Environmental effect from the implementation of measures: compliance with environmental and sanitary-epidemiological legislation in terms of storage and disposal of production and consumption waste, reduction of environmental impact.

Protection of land resources, rational use of subsoil:

The work was carried out on reconstruction and expansion of the ash dump at CHPP-2, work on prevention of dusting of the combined ash and slag removal system of CHPP-1, 2, 3, solid and household waste, mercury-containing lamps and other hazardous wastes of the departments of CHPP-1, 2, 3, ZTC, Kapshagai HPP, Cascade HPP, PRP ‘Energoremont’ were handed over for disposal.

The following environmental campaigns were organised in 2024:

“Paper landing troop” – collection and handing over of waste paper, 4.4 tonnes of waste paper and cardboard were handed over for recycling;

“Give battery a second chance” – a campaign aimed at recycling used household batteries; 94 kilogrammes of household batteries were recycled.

In 2024, three field campaigns on rubbish collection were held in Alma-Arasan gorge, on the river Prokhodnaya, involving all responsible ecologists of production departments and head office, members of the Women’s Club. As a result, 85 rubbish bags of 35 litres were collected.
