Energy projects were discussed in Almaty

The implementation of the most important projects in the energy sector became the subject of discussion at a meeting in Almaty, which took place during the working trip of the Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna Almasadam Satkaliev to the enterprises of the Almaty energy complex.

According to the head of the Fund, energy is a key factor for the development of the country’s economy and without free energy capacity, Kazakhstan will not be able to develop either industry or other important sectors of the economy.

During the meeting, the heads of the companies of the Samruk-Energy JSC group – Almaty Electric Power Plants JSC and Alatau Zharyk Company JSC presented a wide range of projects being implemented today in the region. In addition, representatives of NC QazaqGaz JSC reported on the progress of construction of external gas infrastructure for Almaty CHPP-2 and CHPP-3.

According to the head of Samruk-Energy JSC Serik Tyutebaev, key infrastructure projects in the country’s energy sector are being implemented in the Ekibastuz and Almaty energy complexes. A number of new facilities have already been put into operation, for others the implementation period is expected to be until 2030, including these projects:

– Restoration of power unit No. 1 at Ekibastuz GRES-1 with the installation of new electric precipitators, 2023;
– Expansion and reconstruction of Ekibastuz GRES-2 with the installation of power unit No. 3, 2026;
– Expansion and reconstruction of Ekibastuz GRES-2 with the installation of power unit No. 4, 2027;
— Construction of Ekibastuz GRES-3, 2028-2029;
– Expansion and reconstruction of Ekibastuz GRES-2 with the installation of power units No. 5 and No. 6, 2029-2030;
– Reconstruction of cable networks in Almaty and the Almaty region, 2030;
– Development of networks of the Shelek energy hub in the Almaty region, 2025;
– Construction of the counter-regulatory Kerbulak hydroelectric power station on the Ili River in the Almaty region, 2026;
– Modernization of Almaty CHPP-2 with minimization of environmental impact, 2026;
– Reconstruction of Almaty CHPP-3 on the basis of a CCGT unit with an increase in station capacity to 544 MW, 2025;
– Expansion of Almaty CHPP-1 with the construction of a CCGT unit with a capacity of 200-250 MW, 2026;
– Construction of the Kokozek Substation with connection to the outdoor switchgear of the Kaskelen substation, 2023.

In addition to technological, procedural and financial aspects, problematic issues and ways to solve them were discussed at the meeting. Following the meeting, the head of the Fund gave a number of instructions for execution as soon as possible.
