Ecologists of AlES JSC held a voluntary clean-up day in the mountains: caring for nature comes from everyone

The team of eco-friendly folks from AlES JSC headed to the picture-perfect Ayusai Gorge, which is 1,174 meters above sea level, to do the next eco-friendly campaign as part of the Taza Kazakhstan program. This time, they set out to clean up the area around the Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant, where, even with all the awesome beauty of nature, you can often see signs of people not treating the environment with respect.

Ayusai’s mountain landscapes are mesmerizing: blue fir trees, blooming rose hips, silver poplars and wild walnut trees create a unique atmosphere. However, as environmentalists point out, this beauty suffers from the irresponsibility of tourists.

Yelena Davydova, an environmental engineer at the B.Orazbayev CHPP-1, shared her observations:

We passed several groups of tourists on the way to the clean-up site. Everyone was carrying plastic bottles, which will most likely be left in the mountains. People enjoy nature, but they don’t always think about what they leave behind.

Svetlana Yermolina, environmental engineer at CHP-3, believes that the rubbish is harming nature: “In the city, we see rubbish and blame the street cleaners. In the mountains, we understand that the problem is deeper. A single thrown-away bottle takes 450 years to decompose, and glass can take up to a million years. Human beings are the only creatures that leave so much waste behind them.”

The collected rubbish consists mainly of plastic bottles, disposable tableware, bags, tin cans and glass jars. These items not only spoil the landscape, but also poison the soil and water and become deadly traps for animals.

Natalia Mitusova, an engineer at the Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant, emphasized:

“People bring food and drinks to the mountains to take care of themselves. But for some reason, they forget that nature also needs care. After all, you can just take your rubbish with you and throw it in a bin on the road.

In total, the clean-up team collected 15 bags of rubbish, each weighing 10-15 kg. But the main thing is not just the clean-up, but the appeal to city residents and visitors to the capital: “Ecology is everyone’s concern”.

Ainel Kurmanbayeva, chief specialist at the Environmental Protection Department, noted:

“AlES JSC has been conducting these campaigns for six years now. These are not just Saturday clean-ups – they are a manifestation of love for our native land. We want everyone to think about how even a small contribution can make the world a cleaner place.

How can you help nature? The answer is simple:

– reduce your use of single-use plastics;
– take your rubbish with you after picnics.
– separate waste for recycling;
– educate your friends about the importance of ecology.

«Clean nature begins with us!» – say the participants of the campaign. AlES JSC urges everyone to protect the environment and care for the future of our planet.
