As theory collides with reality: SDU students at the Kapshagai HPP named after Sh.Chokin

How do you understand the real significance of the profession? How to feel the scale and importance of what you learn every day? There is only one answer – to witness everything with your own eyes. That is the opportunity 3 year students of SDU University got on May 22, 2025, visiting Kapshagai HPP named after Sh.Chokin within the framework of the educational program ‘Physics-Informatics’.

It became the first introduction to a real energy facility for many of them. The excursion began with a mandatory safety instructing. Then – a fascinating route around the territory of the station: equipment, control rooms, turbines – and all this in action.

– We study physics, computer science, power engineering, but it is only here, at the HPP, that this knowledge has gained solid weight, sound and movement. Seeing how water energy turns into electricity is an invaluable experience, says Aruzhan Zholdasbayeva.

The station employees didn’t just demonstrate – they shared knowledge. They talked about processes, terminology, and technological details. And they did it so that even the most complicated things became clear.

– It was not just a tour. It was more of a dialogue. We asked questions and received precise, professional and, most importantly, understandable answers, Kasym Zhanie shares his impressions.

– I saw how important it is what we learn to do. It is very inspiring. Now I see studying in a completely different way – with an understanding of where it leads, said Samat Yelaman.

Such excursions are not just a step outside the classroom. It is a step towards future profession. Kapshagai HPP named after Sh. Chokin left in the hearts of students not only new knowledge, but also respect for energy as a matter of life.
