AlES: Together Preserving the Life of Kapshagai Reservoir
3500 juvenile carp released into Kapshagai Reservoir by employees of JSC “AlES”
In mid-autumn, 3,500 juvenile carp, each weighing at least 20 grams, were released into Kapshagai Reservoir. For JSC “AlES”, this is not just an environmental initiative but a contribution to preserving nature and supporting future generations.
In the hands of the plant’s employees were carefully prepared containers filled with live silver fry – the future stewards of the water body. Moments later, the water rippled gently as thousands of small carp embarked on their journey into a vast new life.
For AlES employees, this is more than just a routine activity. Many expressed a sense of becoming part of a larger natural process. Along with the tiny fish, it felt as if care for the future was being released into the water – ensuring that Kapshagai Reservoir remains vibrant, abundant, and rich for generations to come.
Stocking the reservoir has become a cherished tradition in recent years. In 2023, 3,232 juvenile carp were released here. Now, the number has reached 3,500. Each new batch of fry represents hope for the restoration of fish populations, clean water, and a healthy ecosystem.
Employees of the Chilik Pond Farm, one of the oldest in the country, delivered the fish and monitored their condition. For them, this is a familiar yet deeply responsible task, as they understand that every released fish contributes to the shared mission of preserving nature.
The process was overseen by a commission comprising: the head of the Kapshagai Fish Inspection Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Regulation of the Almaty Region, representatives of the contractor company “Halyk Balyk” LLP, a
research fellow from the “Scientific and Production Center for Fisheries” LLP, and employees of JSC “AlES”. For all participants, this was not merely formal supervision but a shared mission – to ensure everything was done correctly and for the benefit of the reservoir.

“We anticipate not only an increase in fish populations but also improvements in water quality and a stronger ecosystem. Such initiatives help preserve biodiversity and remind us that humans and nature must be allies,” shared Mirazbek Kubeyev, Chief Specialist of the Environmental Protection Department of JSC “AlES”.
Preserving biodiversity is a responsibility that JSC “AlES” consciously and consistently upholds. After all, energy is not just about heat and light –it is also about cherishing the nature we coexist with.
