AlES: environmental challenge «Be eco-trendy!»
During November 11-15, 2024, AlES JSC has organized an environmental challenge “Be eco-trendy!” aimed at reducing the use of plastic bags and replacing them with reusable eco-bags. This event was a follow-up to the company’s program aimed at raising awareness about environmental protection.
The eco-challenge “Be eco-trendy!” inspired the majority of employees in the head office and production departments to use eco-bags in their daily routine. This step, no matter how insignificant it may seem, has a great contribution to reducing environmental pollution.
Aisulu Irzhanova, Chief Specialist of the Occupational Health and Safety Department, noted that a plastic bag is used for only 20 minutes on average, but it takes years to be decomposed. Eco-bag is a simple and environmentally friendly solution that can be used many times.
Anar Abdibayeva, Chief Manager of the Corporate Development and Risk Management Department, draws attention to the fact that in order to solve the problem of environmental pollution caused by plastic bags, it is required to pay attention to the bigger problem of utilization and recycling of all types of garbage. She added that in European countries eco-bags have long been a popular symbol of respect for the environment, and in Kazakhstan their popularity is gradually growing.
The Challenge has become a great initiative of the company in the context of environmental education. AlES JSC traditionally organize campaigns to collect waste paper, clean rivers and slopes of the Alma-Arasan gorge. Each environmental project helps to form environmental awareness among employees.
The facts speak for themselves: 5 trillion plastic bags are produced worldwide each year, only 1-3% is recycled, and it takes between 400 and 1,000 years for them to decompose. In some countries, such as the UK, the implementation of a tax on plastic bags has helped to reduce their usage by 85%.
Company employees express their views on the importance of such initiatives. Svetlana Yermolina, an environmental protection engineer at CHPP-3, noted that even a small contribution from each individual, such as refusing plastic bags, can improve the environmental situation. Svetlana Yermolina, an environmental protection engineer at CHPP-3, noted that even a small contribution from each person, such as refusing plastic bags, can improve the environmental conditions. Zhazira Akkuliyeva, specialist of the Works and Services Department, said that today eco-bags are increasingly associated with fashion. Eco-bags are popular because they are lightweight, easy to clean and can store things for a long time.
Kanstaniya Kaderbayeva, an engineer in the production and technical department of CHPP-2, added that environmentalists are alerting and suggest replacing polythene bags and using other materials, and the best way out is using eco-bags.
