AlES Anniversary Sports Competition: 10 years of energy, team spirit and sports victories

The athletes were awarded 201 medals and 57 certificates for their outstanding achievements, will to win and enthusiastic participation – a worthy result for this anniversary year

One of the most exciting and long-awaited events in the corporate calendar took place at sports venues in Almaty from 24 April to 4 May 2025: ALES’s 10th anniversary Sports Games. These are not just traditions, but part of the corporate culture that unites hundreds of employees with a common goal, a spirit of competition and a desire to do the best they can.

More than 200 participants from all of the company’s production departments took part in the sport competition, competing in 12 sport disciplines ranging from basketball and volleyball to togyzkumalak, besasyq and even e-sports. It felt like a major sports festival, where every score, every pass, and every step showed team spirit and personal courage.

This was not just a sports tournament – it will be remembered as a week filled with emotions, team support, spectacular victories and genuine personal stories that people will want to share.

Medina Aikan, an engineer at the CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov, has been participating in the sports festival for several years and shared her impressions: “The sports festival season is a special time. It allows you to break out of your routine, recharge your batteries, make new friends and remind yourself that we are one team. The level of sporting ability among the participants grows year on year, which is particularly pleasing to see. It shows a conscious approach and a love of sport. I sincerely hope that there will be more events like this!”

Moldir Zampozova, an engineer at ZTC, has been participating in the Sport Games for three years: “I played volleyball and besasyk. I very much enjoy these competitions – the atmosphere is unique. I have made many friends over the years. It feels like home here”.

Zhandos Turebekov, captain of the CHPP-2 A.Zhakutov basketball team, can rightfully be called the hero of the Sports Festival. Despite suffering a leg injury, he still took to the court in the final and helped his team win by scoring six decisive points: “I had a fracture in my foot, but I couldn’t let the team down. I went out on the court despite the pain. It was, without exaggeration, a historic game. I have been playing basketball since childhood, and I will remember this match forever. May AlES continue to nurture its champions!”

During the Sports Festival, modern sports grounds were opened at the CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev. Yersin Atamkul, a pump operator in the turbine shop, said: “We work out twice a week. The team is strong and has a competitive spirit. Sport is already part of our everyday life.”

Kamilla Atesh, a pump operator at the CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov, was one of the brightest newcomers. She managed to win first place in arm wrestling without any prior training: I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the organizers and participants. It was a week of true sporting celebration. Even as a beginner, I felt comfortable and enjoyed myself. Hopefully, the best is yet to come – we have many more victories ahead of us!

Bebit Baynuserov, an electrical repair technician at the CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov, proudly said: “Our team participated in all the tournaments and won four gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals. Everything was organized at a high level – clearly, smoothly and professionally. It was a great pleasure to be part of such an event!”

Zhomart Dauletbayev, Chief Manager of the Methodology Department and captain of the Head Office team, became one of the heroes of the football tournament. The team confidently made its way through the tournament and took first place in football – a real breakthrough for a team that had not previously been among the favorites in this sport. The tournament culminated in a tense final against the recognized favorites, the PRP Eneroremont team. Regular time ended in a draw, and the fate of the match was decided in a penalty shootout. Thanks to their composure, endurance and coordinated actions, the Head Office team won a hard-fought victory, climbing onto the football podium for the first time. Under Zhomart’s leadership the team demonstrated excellent tactics, unity and a desire to win. This result is a testament to their hard training and mutual support.

Elmira Turumbetova, a metrology engineer at CHPP-3, won bronze medal in arm wrestling despite an injury: I will definitely fight for gold next year. I also play in the volleyball team. Almost all of us are new this year, but we tried our best. I have been participating in corporate sports competitions since 2015, except during the quarantine period. It’s been a decade with AlES and Sports Games!

The story of Kamil Akhmatashev, an electrician at CHPP-2, was particularly touching. His little daughters became the most sincere fans: “When our team was losing to CHPP-1 in basketball, my daughters were in tears. However, as the score reached 32:33, their eyes lit up with pride for their father and CHPP-2. I will remember this forever”.

Sabina Imayeva, chief specialist of the Capital Construction Department at CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov, table tennis champion, won gold for the third time: “My emotions are running high! The competition was so exciting and intense that time flew by. Congratulations to everyone!”

There was also serious competition in intellectual sports. Symbat Tursynbek, a metrology engineer at Cascade HPP, won second place in togyzkumalak and will represent the company at the Samruk-Energy Sports Games: “The Sports Games are a very important event. It strengthens team spirit, allow you to reveal your inner potential and feel that you are part of a large and strong team”.

Gulzhan Bakhtybaeva, head of the trade union at the Kapshagay Hydroelectric Power Plant named after Sh.Chokin, noted that even without professional training, their girls are doing really well in volleyball: “We practice at schools, but that doesn’t keep us from winning. Our team won second place. This year, Dilnaz Kөbegen also won a well-deserved golden medal!”

Dilnaz Kobegen, an electrician at the Sh.Chokin Kapshagai Hydroelectric Power Plant, became the champion in bes-asyk: “The hardest part was dealing with my nerves. In the semi-final against PRP Energoremont, in the last seconds, I pulled myself together and won. It was touch and go, but we got the victory!”

Adilet Beisenbayev, deputy chief engineer and head of the CPVT, has been playing football since 2011:

“We train regularly, twice a week. The Central Power Plant team trains and plays friendly matches. It brings us together and makes us stronger!”

Oksana Kostareva, lead accountant at CHPP-3, participated in volleyball and swimming: “We worked out regularly, rented a gym, trained as a team, and got to know each other. I really want to continue and improve my skills. The girls are great!” Last year, Oksana won second place in the Samruk-Energy Swimming Competition. This year, she believes she has a chance to win.

Rysbek Umiraev, engineer on duty at the Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant: “Our football team is a strong team. The core of the team has been playing together for three years. We have our own captain, Oleg Chekhov, head of the Logistics Department. We have been playing for four years now, and we have our own field!”

Overall team results:

– 1 st place – CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov. The team has won for the second year in a row, and this is becoming a good tradition. This result is not only the merit of the participants, but also a reflection of a strong, united team.

– 2 nd place – CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev. The team is steadily improving from year to year: last year they won bronze, and this year they won silver. Such progress speaks for the determination, discipline and excellent physical training of the participants. Coordinated work, internal motivation and a fighting spirit have allowed CHP-1 to confidently secure its place among the leaders.

– 3 rd place -Zapadnyi Thermal Complex. It was a big breakthrough of the season – for the first time in the history of the Sports Games, the team was among the winners. This success was made possible by high team spirit, serious preparation and the desire to prove that ambition and hard work can bring even newbies to the elite of corporate sports. The Zapadnyi Thermal Complex has rightfully become one of the favorites of the current season.

The 201 medals and 57 certificates awarded to the participants of the event proved that AlES is not only energy and power, but also strength of spirit, dedication to the team and sportsmanship.

10 years is just the beginning!

The anniversary Sports Games have become a reflection of our common values: unity, mutual assistance and determination. This is a story about each of us. It is about victories achieved through the efforts of the entire team. It is about moments that will be remembered for a lifetime.

May the tradition of sporting events continue! May it unite and inspire! May the energy of AlES always remain the energy of life!

P.S. Basketball team of CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev, winner of second place in the Sports Festival, has donated half of its prize money to a former colleague, Bauyrkhan Bayasilov. He had worked as a communications officer at CHPP-1 for 12 years, and today his five-year-old son Batyrkhan is facing a severe diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

The silver medal in the tournament has become not just a sports achievement, but an opportunity to support. The strength of the team lies in its actions. The strength of AlES lies in its people.
