Akim of Almaty Darkhan Satybaldy visited CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov

The Akim of Almaty, Darkhan Satybaldy, visited one of the key facilities of the city’s energy system, CHPP-2 named after A.Zhakutov, on 27 May 2025. The Akim was briefed on the station’s preparations for the 2025-2026 heating season. He was informed that 56 units of main equipment are scheduled to be repaired as part of the repair campaign, 36% of which has already been completed.

As part of his visit, the akim was introduced to the CHPP-2 modernization project, which provides for an expansion of the station’s electrical capacity to 557 MW and thermal capacity to 952 Gcal/h, as well as a radical reduction in pollutant emissions by 93% and carbon footprint by 38%. The modernization is proceeding according to the scheduled plan: the preparatory stages have been completed, 47% of the pile driving work has been completed, and the installation of foundations and structural elements is underway. Deliveries of the main equipment are still ongoing.

“The modernization of CHPP-2 is one of the key tasks. This is a strategic project, the implementation of which depends on the environmental sustainability and comfortable environment in the city. Improving environmental indicators is an important contribution to the development of Almaty,” said akim Darkhan Satybaldy.
