On December 20, 2013, AlES JSC received an act from the state acceptance commission on the acceptance of the boiler room at CHPP-2 into operation. The total cost of the project is 13.2 billion tenge.

The implementation of the project will make it possible to cover the shortage of thermal energy in the North-Eastern part of Almaty, increase the annual supply of thermal energy from CHPP-2 by 1 million Gcal per year and improve the environmental situation in Almaty.
