THE PROBLEM OF HEAT IS ALWAYS RELEVANT

Progress in fulfilling investment obligations of AlES JSC for 2009-2013
Last week, a group of journalists got acquainted with the current state of the 2nd thermal power plant (CHPP-2) of Almaty Electric Power Stations JSC (AlES). The purpose is to get acquainted with the implementation of investment obligations of AlES JSC for 2009-2013.
In general, today JSC “AlES” is an energy-producing institution engaged in the production and provision of heat and electricity in Almaty and the Almaty region. According to the company, today 60-70 percent of appliances at energy-producing facilities that access it look worn out. In particular, the condition of installations at CHPP-1, CHPP-2, and Kaskad HPP requires replacement with modern equipment.
Nevertheless, during our visit to CHPP-2, the company’s management informed us about the work being done there, describing in detail how boiler houses and steam, hot water, and electrical equipment are being repaired, upgraded, and replaced with modern equipment. Even the newly built collector building is planned to be launched in the near future, with the beginning of the heating season. In addition, a new one will be added to the building where the former old boilers are located, which is also ready for the upcoming heating season. Magnetic pointers were installed at all three CHPPs, fans were overhauled, and cooling towers that drain salt water to produce salt were repaired.
It should be recalled that the press tour described how AlES JSC fulfills its investment obligations. According to correspondents, 31 percent of the funds are allocated for increasing production volumes, 3.1 percent for reducing production costs, 34 percent for maintaining the current state of production, 18 percent for the construction of an ash dump and 14 percent for environmental protection measures.
According to Galym Sadvakasovich, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of AlES JSC for Production, Chief Engineer, in the near future, Winter Universiade facilities will be built near CHPP-2, which will be held in the city in 2017. In addition, other socially significant objects will be built near the city. That is, the goal here is to attract heat and light to them at close range. At the same time, according to Galys Sadvakasovich, smoke traps are installed in the giant twin towers where it smokes, and the amount of toxic gas released into the air is significantly reduced.
It is worth noting that at the initiative of the mayor of the city Akhmetzhan Yessimov, concerning the improvement of the ecological situation of the city, CHPP-1 switched to environmentally friendly fuel. However, you should also remember to be careful, and if severe cold weather occurs in winter, then coal and fuel oil are ready for it as an additional fuel.
It is very important that heat and electricity reach the city residents safely and there are no accidents. The work carried out in this direction on the annual repair of main and auxiliary devices has reduced the accident rate by up to 50%. Pumps and electric motors, devices that provide workplace comfort, and other small equipment that comes in for frequent replacement are also frequently updated.
The measures taken by the giant company, which includes three combined heat and power plants “Kaskad” and “Kapshagai”, have yielded results and will allow increasing production volumes in the future.
Thus, JSC “AlES” implements its investment commitments within the established time frame and successfully fulfills the prerequisites for uninterrupted heat supply and high-quality services to the population of the city and region in the coming winter.
