Occupational safety at jsc «ales»: key points in 2023

In 2024, JSC “AlES” continues to implement the Vision Zero concept – a strategy aimed at achieving zero injuries in the working environment. The Company aims to create conditions under which all work performed in production departments will be safe and will not result in work-related injuries.

To achieve this goal, the company is continuously working to improve safety culture among its personnel and their involvement in occupational safety issues. In 2023, training to improve safety culture was conducted in various formats by internal trainers who had undergone the relevant training.

Special attention was paid to the work of internal trainers of the Occupational Health and Safety Department of JSC “AlES”. They conducted training in the Personnel Training Division of the Human Resources Department.

– A total of 1,332 employees from production departments took part in training in 134 groups. In November-December 2023, internal trainers of the OHS Department visited all production departments and trained 759 employees. For 608 employees, training was conducted directly at workplaces by internal trainers of production departments. The total number of employees trained in 2023 was 2,699, which covers 100% of the Company’s production personnel, – said Karim Sartayev, Head of the Occupational Health and Safety Department.

The Safe Production information system, including a mobile application, is used to activate personnel involvement in labour safety issues. Once registered in the system, employees can report identified events and defects in real time, which facilitates their prompt elimination. By the end of 2023, 70% of JSC “AlES” production personnel actively used the information system, having registered 8,436 events and defects. To encourage employees’ activity in the information system, incentives in the form of monetary payments were approved in accordance with the established standards. For 2023, cash incentives ranging from 3 to 10 minimum wages were paid to the most active employees.

Technical inspectors are an important component of ensuring occupational health and safety. They exercise public control from the Production Council for Occupational Health and Safety, representing the interests of the trade union.

– 21 trained technical inspectors actively interact with production departments, identifying and preventing violations in the field of occupational health and safety. They are paid 15 thousand tenge quarterly for their active work in ensuring safety at work. In 2023, technical inspectors issued 209 submissions on 482 violations in the field of occupational health and safety, – said Aisulu Irzhanova, Chief Specialist of the Industrial Safety and Labour Protection Department.

In 2024, the Company continues to work to create a safe working environment, making maximum efforts to train personnel, involve them in safety processes, and encourage activity among those who contribute to the achievement of the “Vision Zero”.
