Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Kazyna, inspected the progress of the modernisation of CHPP-2 and CHPP-3 in Almaty

These are the major projects that will shape the energy future of the metropolis. The construction sites were inspected. Current issues related to the implementation of the projects were discussed.

The modernization of Almaty CHPP-2 involves converting the plant to natural gas, which will significantly improve the city’s environmental situation. Once the work is completed in 2026, emissions will be reduced by almost 14 times, from 37,300 tons to 2,700 tons per year. There will also be an increase in electrical capacity from 510 to 557 MW.
As part of the reconstruction of CHPP-3, a combined cycle gas turbine plant is being built. The implementation of the project will increase the electrical capacity of the plant from 173 to 544 MW and partially cover the shortage of shunting capacity in the southern part of Kazakhstan.

Nurlan Zhakupov also checked the preparedness of AlES JSC facilities for operation in the autumn-winter period.

As part of the visit to the thermal power plant, trees were planted as a contribution to the ecology and future of the city.
