INVESTMENTS IN RELIABILITY AND QUALITY (EXECUTION OF THE INVESTMENT AGREEMENT OF ALES JSC WITH THE MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY AND TRADE OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN FOR 2013)

According to the investment agreement concluded with the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of the Republic of Kazakhstan, AlES JSC’s investment obligations for 2013 are planned to amount to KZT 7,580. 1 million, with actual fulfillment amounting to KZT 7,550.9 million (99.6%).
The following main activities were implemented under the Investment Agreement::
Measures aimed at increasing production volumes, including::
* Reconstruction and expansion of CHPP-1 of JSC “AlES” with conversion to gas and installation of CCGT/GTU. Development of POI. Completion of work in 2014
* Clearing of the riverbed in the lower reaches of the Kapshagai hydroelectric power station. Completion of work in 2014
• ” Reconstruction of HPP-2 of the HPP Cascade. Development of POI”. Completion of work in 2014
Measures to reduce production costs, including::
* Construction of its own water intake at CHPP-1 and CHPP-2. Completion of work in 2014
* Installation of water metering devices at Kapshagayskaya HPP. Completion of work in 2014
Maintaining the production level
To replace physically worn-out equipment and extend its service life, the power equipment of CHPP-1, CHPP-2, CHPP-3, Kapshagayskaya HPP and Cascade of HPPs was reconstructed in the amount of 2,598. 3 million tenge, including:
* Major repair of hydraulic unit no.2 Kapshagayskaya HPP with complete disassembly and instrumental surveys to determine the remaining resource.
* Reconstruction and construction of buildings and structures has been completed.
• The medium-speed roller mill was replaced at CHPP-1.
* Major repairs were made to the power equipment.
Construction of ash dumps
To ensure the smooth operation of the plant, the following works were performed:
* Reconstruction of combined ash and slag removal system at CHPP-2.
* Reconstruction and expansion of the ash dump of CHPP-3.
Main environmental measures
As part of the fulfillment of Investment Obligations, the burner devices of the CHPP-2 and CHPP-3 boilers were upgraded.
Implementation of the measures implemented in 2013 allowed:
• Increase the utilization rate of the installed electric capacity of AlES JSC by 0.5% compared to the planned value and amounted to 48.2 % due to an increase in electricity generation by 50,021 thousand kWh.
* Reduce the adverse environmental impact of nitrogen oxides from JSC AlES ‘ energy sources at CHPP-2 and CHPP-3 boilers by 440 tons / year.
* Reduce the number of technological failures in AlES JSC as a whole from 171 to 148 (13%).
