Immersion in the world of energy

At the end of May 2024, a group of students and foreign researchers from the Kazakh-German University visited two key sites AlES JSC – Kapshagayskaya HPP n.a. Sh.Chokin and CHP-2 n.a. A.Zhakutov.

The purpose of their visit was not only to get acquainted with the operation of the hydropower plant and the combined heat and power plant, but also to gain a deeper understanding of their technical features and to discuss the prospects of introducing new renewable energy sources.

Abylaikhan Soltanayev, scientific coordinator of DKU, shared his impressions about the visit to Kapshagayskaya HPP named after Sh.Chokin. Having rich experience in the field of hydropower, he noted the high professionalism and responsibility of the station’s personnel, as well as a modern approach to the operation of equipment. He emphasised the importance of cooperation between educational institutions and hydropower plants for training new specialists in this field.

DKU Master’s student Dina Mamadzhanova from Tashkent noted that her visit to the HPP was not only a fascinating but also an educational experience. She was impressed by the friendly staff and the availability of information about the plant’s structure, which helped to broaden her professional horizons.

Bekzhon Makhmudov, a master’s student of DKU, shared his impressions about the visit to the hydropower station. He emphasised the importance of caring for nature and preserving the historical heritage of the site.

The group of students and researchers also visited A.Zhakutov CHPP-2, where they learnt the main technical characteristics of the plant and the control and monitoring system. DKU graduate student Dina Mamadjanova noted the informative nature of the tour and the importance of the work done by the employees of the thermal power plant in ensuring energy security of the region.

Master student from Afghanistan Farahnaz Mahshid shared her thoughts about the consumption of electricity and the impact on the environment. She was impressed by the labour and dedication of the people working at the plant, and urged to think about resource conservation and respect for those who provide us with energy.

The visit to Kapshagayskaya HPP n.a. Sh.Chokin and CHP-2 n.a. A.Zhakutov was not only an opportunity for students and researchers of the Kazakh-German University to deepen their knowledge in the field of energy, but also to enrich themselves with practical experience important for their future professional career. This visit also underlined the importance of co-operation between educational institutions and industrial enterprises to share knowledge and experience necessary to develop new technologies and address the energy challenges of the future.
