Huge sky, bright sun and two chimneys of my CHPP-2…
I would depict on my banner Utemis Sabyrkulov, deputy chief engineer for repairs of CHPP-2 named after. A. Zhakutova
As a child, Utemis Sabyrkulov dreamed of different professions. And he chose the profession of energy engineer because he is sure that all industries and professions depend on and are strongly connected with energy.
In 1978, he became a student at the Almaty Energy Institute. According to Utemis Sabyrkulov, the energy profession is complex, multi-structural and in demand. The power engineer must have a mathematical mind, attentiveness, and monitor the accuracy of calculations. An energy specialist is a person capable of making decisions and bearing responsibility.
Utemis Sabyrkulov’s idol and mentor in the profession was his uncle, Honored Power Engineer of the Republic of Kazakhstan, CIS, academician, Professor Kezhek Bersenovich Iskakov, who made a great contribution to the development of the energy sector in Kazakhstan and trained a whole galaxy of power engineers.
At CHPP-2 named after. A. Zhakutov station Utemis Sabyrkulov has been operating since 1985. He began his career as an on-duty mechanic in a turbine shop, then worked as a lineman, a machinist, a senior driver, a shift supervisor, a deputy shop manager for operation, and from 2012 to the present he has been working as a deputy chief repair engineer.
“I remember my first working day at the station with a lot of equipment; I was struck by the enormity of the enterprise, the roar of engines, turbines, pumps,” recalls Utemis Sabyrkulov. – My first mentor was senior turbine shop operator Sergei Kirillovich Shadrin. He taught me a lot and helped me develop as a specialist. I got used to the station quite quickly, thanks to experienced mentors.
About 800 people work at CHPP-2. A lot of guys came from the Energy Institute, from college, and there are also guys from related professions. People from our station work as managers throughout Kazakhstan.
I met Utemis Abenovich in 1992, when I got a job at CHPP-2 as a line operator in the boiler shop. Then he worked as a boss
turbine shop. Over many years of working with him, I note that Utemis Abenovich
professional in his field. He is always disciplined and demanding
At work. As a person, he is very kind, cheerful, and will always help with a word.
and action, support and participation.

The main thing in work for Utemis Sabyrkulov is responsibility for his work, conscientiousness, never stopping there, and improving his professional level.
– I went from a mechanic to a deputy chief engineer. I have prepared decent personnel who will continue to work after me. Received the title of Honored Energy Engineer of the Republic of Kazakhstan. My professional dream is to work without accidents, without problems for people’s health. So that conscientious guys, professionals in their field, come into the energy sector.
Utemis Sabyrkulov’s working day begins with a tour of the station, then a daily planning meeting is held with the chief engineer of the station, where current matters on the repair and operation of the station equipment are discussed. Utemis Sabyrkulov always has everything planned and written down.
– Now is the time of technology and gadgets, and we need to keep up with the times. We must develop skills to succeed in the information age. Therefore, I am not only a mentor, but I also learn from the guys,” shared Utemis Sabyrkulov. – When I worked in the turbine shop, it was interesting to accept young guys, train them and see their success and growth. I have been working as a mentor for over 30 years. In the late 90s there was a time when salaries were paid in food, I was the deputy head of a turbine shop. Personnel turnover began and people began to leave for construction jobs, where the salaries were high. A whole shift, 15-16 people, left before the heating season. The situation was critical, but we were quickly able to recruit young, inexperienced guys, prepared, trained and successfully conducted the heating season.
He never claims to know everything. Always learn. The introduction of new equipment always brings new experiences to him.
Colleagues speak of Utemis Sabyrkulov as a very responsible employee. If you need it at three o’clock in the morning or on weekends, and even on vacation, then, if in the city, he will always come to the station to resolve serious work issues.
Utemis Abenovich is an attentive, demanding, caring person.
Delves deeply into the solution of any issues, pays attention to
details that seem insignificant, but are actually important.
Sometimes he asks a question, and you realize that you missed it (clicked!).

– Our profession is considered one of the dangerous ones, because there is a risk of electric shock, a risk when working at height. You need to concentrate on the action being performed. The slightest mistake can lead to tragic consequences. Unfortunately, there have been such cases.
Utemis Sabyrkulov likes it when everything in the city, especially at night, is illuminated and beautiful. He is glad that this is the merit of our team. His motto in life: “No matter what happens, remember: it’s a bad day, not a bad life!”
The children of Utemis Sabyrkulov are proud of their father’s profession. And December 22 is a family holiday.
– On my banner I would depict a huge sky, a bright sun and two chimneys of my CHPP-2!
Utemis Sabyrkulov wishes trouble-free and uninterrupted work, health and patience to his colleagues in this complex profession that our city needs.
