Fascinating excursion into the profession at the Edelweiss Children’s Camp
Where light comes from in a light bulb, how current runs along wires, what parents do at power plants… Answers to these and many other questions could be obtained by children who had a holiday in July in the high-mountain camp “Edelweiss” belonging to JSC AlES. All the children are from power engineers’ families, and some of them are from large dynasties with up to a hundred years of professional experience.
It is clear that children have heard about the professions of their relatives in general terms. But now the employees of CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev told them about their parents’ professions in a clear, accessible and interesting way. They specially went to “Edelweiss” to immerse the children in the world of a wonderful industry, without which it is impossible to imagine life today. Lectures at the height impressed the children.
This fascinating excursion into the profession of a power engineer did not leave any child indifferent. The history of Almaty Electric Stations JSC, where their parents work, aroused the children’s keen and sincere interest. Many of them learnt much more about what they do at work and how much effort they make to ensure that there was always light, heat and hot water in the taps in Almaty. Alisher Teltai, engineer of the Repair Service of CHPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev, told the children in detail and fascinatingly about the principles of work of the heat and power plant.
– Of course, at home the children have heard their parents‘ stories about their work many times, but I believe that by talking about the principles of the CHPP, I was able to immerse the children in the world of big energy, says Alisher. – I answered all the questions the children had in an accessible and entertaining way. We hold such meetings every year. And each time we think about how to organise our meeting so that children better understand the profession of a power engineer.
Talking to the children, Alisher emphasised that not only men but also women work in the energy sector and explained the importance of their role in production. By the way, there are 568 women working in AlES JSC now. This is about 19% of the entire staff of the company. They are represented at all facilities of the company, occupying both managerial positions and engineering and technical positions.
And after the educational part, young employees of TPP-1 named after B.Orazbayev organised a quiz, in which children participated with pleasure and received prizes with delight. The culmination of the meeting was a quiz by Bekzhan Bukharbek, a mechanic of the station’s turbine shop. It revealed the children’s versatile knowledge of history, physics, chemistry and maths, as well as their logical thinking skills.
– We prepare the quiz questions in advance, thinking through each task. It is gratifying that the children listened and answered the questions with interest and enthusiasm, demonstrating their understanding of the importance of the power engineering profession, said Bekzhan.
The children from different detachments gladly shared their impressions of the meeting. “I like it at the camp” said Mirais Abek from squad 7. – It is very interesting here. For example, the meeting with power engineers from AlES was fascinating. I took part in a quiz and I’m glad I knew the right answer. They gave me a prize – a ball. It’s cool, because I love football!”
Zhandos Nurdauletov, from the 8th detachment, was delighted with the energy workers’ story, the quiz and the presents. He is the third time in this camp and authoritatively states: “Edelweiss is wonderful!”
Amir Bokanov from the 5th squad agrees with him, calling the camp the best, firstly, because he has many friends here, and secondly – because it is interesting! “I like everything here very much”, Amir summarised. – I took part in all the competitions, answered the questions – and it’s cool”.
And Amelie Nysynbaeva from the 6th detachment especially liked the dance competition. “I won it! – Amelie rejoices. – We have concerts every day! I’m sure the Edelweiss camp is a miracle”.
An exciting and informative meeting of young power engineers and children ended with a flash mob, which united all participants and gave a sea of positive emotions. The children were happy to dance and demonstrate their talents, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of unity and joy.
Young employees of CHPP-1 n.a. B.Orazbayev are sure that such events not only broaden children's horizons, but also help them feel part of a big and important cause. The equal opportunities project will be continued for the children who will come to the children’s health camp “Edelweiss” in the next shifts. The children and the company’s employees are looking forward to new meetings next year. And who knows, maybe in the near future they will come to work at AlES, continuing the work of their parents.
