CHPP-2 named after. A. Zhakutova: a visiting meeting of the public council of the Samruk-Kazyna Foundation was held
On April 21, 2023, the first on-site meeting of the Foundation’s Public Council was held under the chairmanship of Bolat Zhamishev. The participants discussed the work of Samruk-Energy JSC and the problems associated with the shortage of electrical power in Kazakhstan. The meeting was held in an open format and attracted a lot of attention from the public and the media.
Chairman of the Board of Samruk-Energy JSC Serik Tyutebaev spoke at the meeting and noted that the safety margin of power plants in Kazakhstan has been exhausted. He emphasized that by 2029, a shortage of electrical capacity of over 3 GW is expected, as energy consumption in the country is constantly growing. Over the past five years it has grown by 9.4%. The increased load on worn-out equipment of existing thermal power plants leads to frequent accidents, such as in Ekibastuz, Rudny, Ridder, Temirtau. New electricity generation capacity is being launched, but at a much slower pace due to lack of funding and low tariffs.
According to the head of the energy holding, the policy of containing tariffs leads to losses for thermal energy producers. For example, for the Almaty company AlES over the past 5 years it amounted to about 6 billion tenge. Often power plants cannot pay for the coal from which they produce electricity. The total debt of energy producing organizations of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Bogatyr Komir LLP is about 6.4 billion tenge. In addition, due to the foreign policy situation, prices for equipment have increased further. For example, pipes for steam boilers and pipelines have risen in price by 3.5 times in two years.
Underfinancing of energy facilities ultimately leads to the degradation of the industry and the inability to meet the energy needs of the economy. The electric power holding company solves the problem by modernizing existing power plants and building new power plants. Large projects are being implemented in Almaty and Ekibastuz.
– It is planned to begin construction of a new gas power plant at the Almaty CHPP-2 site in August 2023. The contractor for the supply of equipment and construction of the station will be determined in the second quarter of this year,” said Dauren Sagidulla, Managing Director for Investment Projects of AlES JSC.
