AlES: results of environmental actions
AlES JSC collected 51 kg of used batteries and 11 tons of waste paper
In December, AlES JSC summed up the results of two environmental campaigns “Hand in your batteries – save the planet!” and “Save the green planet.”
These events are held annually in the company; their goal is to shape the environmental outlook of employees and emphasize the need for separate collection of waste, for example, batteries and waste paper.
– AlES JSC has been holding similar events for the fourth year now. Our main goal is to unite as many workers as possible for the important cause of preserving the environment, to remind that paper is a valuable raw material that can and should be sent for recycling,” noted Zoya Arzyukova, chief manager of the Environmental Protection Department.
Despite the development of digital technologies, over the past 20 years we have consumed 26% more paper. Every year, more than 100 million trees are cut down in the world for its production – this is approximately 20 hectares of forest per minute. Each ton of recycled waste paper will save about 10 trees and prevent the release of one ton of CO2 into the atmosphere.
– Every person should understand that the waste they and their family produce, such as paper or plastic, can be reused, and others, such as batteries and accumulators, will be disposed of correctly and safely. This is the only way to help our planet. “Take care of yourself, the people around you and nature – donate your used batteries! “We say, ecologists,” Elena Silvestrova, chief specialist of the Environmental Protection Department, expressed her opinion.
According to Saltanat Zhanakhmetova, chief specialist of the Environmental Protection Department, the disposal of this waste is one of the most difficult problems in the processing of secondary raw materials, not only in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Almost all batteries contain toxic substances in the form of various metals and chemicals, which, when the battery cases are destroyed, enter the natural environment. Batteries that have reached the end of their intended life may provide further benefit if disposed of properly. So, after the battery recycling process, very useful raw materials are obtained, which are subsequently used in cosmetology, for the production of electrical equipment, minerals, and plastic production.
AlES JSC expresses its deep gratitude to the company’s employees for participating in environmental events and for their concern for environmental issues and problems.
